Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku targeted by angry fans after Gambia defeat

Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku was confronted by angry supporters following the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat by Gambia in their Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2027 qualifier at Accra Stadium on Tuesday.

Ghana had appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead, but Gambia scored four times to complete a remarkable turnaround. The result was Ghana’s second successive defeat in the qualifying campaign and left the Black Stars bottom of Group C with zero points.

Tensions rose inside the stadium after the final whistle, with sections of the home support directing their frustration towards Okraku. Supporters pointed at the GFA president, chanted for him to leave his position and confronted him as he tried to depart.

Security personnel and members of Okraku’s entourage quickly formed a cordon around him to prevent the situation from escalating into a physical confrontation.

The reaction reflected growing anger among Ghana supporters over what they see as the continued decline of the Black Stars and the national team’s recent struggles in qualification campaigns.

Calls for structural reforms and the resignation of officials at the GFA have intensified on social media and in local sports media. Okraku is now under significant pressure as Ghana’s CAN 2027 qualifying campaign reaches its lowest point.
