Mofokeng backs Orlando Pirates youngster Mpho Padime to reach the top

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise attacker Relebohile Mofokeng believes Orlando Pirates youngster Mpho Padime has the talent and work ethic to enjoy a long and successful career.

Padime has quickly attracted attention at Pirates after making his first-team debut at the age of 19. The young midfielder has already offered glimpses of the ability that persuaded the Buccaneers to promote him to senior football.

Mofokeng, who is regarded as one of the most promising young players in South African football, has been impressed by Padime’s willingness to take on opponents and play with attacking intent.

Speaking to SuperSport, Mofokeng said Padime’s style also reminded him of the traditional qualities associated with South African football.

“I think he’s a very exciting player. He’s very exciting and he’s very skilful,” Mofokeng said.

“When you are watching him, you feel that South African football thing, you remember where you come from because where we come from, we dribble, we entertain people and all that.”

Mofokeng said Padime’s decision-making in possession and desire to make a difference for his team were among the qualities that made him stand out.

“So, when I look at him, I feel excited because he dribbles while going forward, he wants to do something for the team,” he added.

The Royale Union Saint-Gilloise attacker also pointed to Padime’s physical attributes and commitment, saying both would help him as he continues to develop.

“And I think if he continues like this he’ll go far because he’s a very good player. He’s got the height, his work rate also speaks for him.

“I think if he continues like this he’ll play in the first team. From the first team he can get better options and go far.”

Padime’s emergence has added to the growing interest in the next generation of players at Orlando Pirates, with his performances at senior level providing an early indication of his potential. Mofokeng’s assessment reflects the high regard in which the teenager is already held by one of South Africa’s leading young talents.
