Egypt’s 5-0 win over South Sudan sets new records under Hossam Hassan

Khaled El-Dirndaly, vice-president of the Egyptian Football Association, has praised Hossam Hassan for clarifying his comments and reaffirming his respect for all parts of the domestic football structure.

Egypt produced their biggest victory since Hassan became head coach by beating South Sudan 5-0 in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

El-Dirndaly, who headed Egypt’s delegation, said he was pleased with both the result and the team’s performance despite difficult conditions in Juba.

“I am happy with the result and the three points. The team’s performance was good despite the high temperature and the condition of the pitch,” he told the Egyptian Football Association’s media centre.

“Everyone is behind the national team and we are all working to make the people of Egypt happy.”

He also confirmed that the squad would return home on Wednesday because Juba airport closes at 18:00.

“The Egypt delegation will return to the country tomorrow, Wednesday, because Juba airport closes its doors at six in the evening,” El-Dirndaly said.

He added that Hassan had made a point of clarifying his position in order to underline his appreciation for everyone involved in Egyptian football, including the country’s league clubs.

“Hossam Hassan was keen to clarify his comments, to confirm his appreciation for all parts of the football structure and the Egyptian league clubs that contribute to the development of the national teams and provide them with players, especially those that win continental titles,” he said.

El-Dirndaly also thanked the Egyptian embassy in South Sudan for its support during the team’s trip.

The emphatic victory produced several notable milestones for Egypt and their players.

Egypt’s biggest win under Hassan

The five-goal victory is the largest recorded by Egypt during Hassan’s tenure. He has now overseen 37 matches in charge of the Pharaohs.
