AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Zambia cruise past Togo in Group I

Zambia secured a valuable 2-0 victory over Togo in Group I on matchday two of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The result lifted the Copper Bullets above Togo in the standings and gave them important momentum in their qualification campaign.

Zambia made the perfect start when Albert Kangwanda opened the scoring in the second minute. Fashion Sakala provided the assist, allowing the hosts to take an early advantage into halftime.

Togo struggled to create a clear response after the interval, while Zambia defended their lead with increasing confidence. The visitors made several changes in an attempt to improve their attacking threat, but the Zambian back line remained organised and limited their opportunities.

The hosts finally settled the contest deep into stoppage time. Eliya Mandanji struck in the 95th minute after receiving a pass from Mathews Banda, confirming Zambia’s deserved win. Kangwanda was named player of the match after his influential display.

Zambia will play their next game against Burundi on November 11th in Group I. Algeria will take on Togo on the same day. Algeria currently leads the group with four points after two games, followed by Zambia, then Togo, with Burundi bottom on one point.
