Senegal close gap on Mozambique with narrow Ethiopia win

Senegal earned a valuable 1-0 victory away to Ethiopia on Tuesday to move level on points with Mozambique at the top of Group 10 in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ibrahim Mbaye scored the only goal in the 11th minute, securing three important points for Senegal in their bid to reach the finals.

The result leaves Senegal second in the group with four points, behind leaders Mozambique on goal difference. Sudan are third with three points, while Ethiopia remain bottom without a point.

The 2027 qualifying competition features 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. The campaign is being played over six rounds.

The top two teams from most groups will qualify for the finals. However, the qualification system differs in the groups containing the three host nations: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
