Hamza Abdelkarim breaks Egypt duck in five-goal South Sudan win

Hamza Abdelkarim scored his first international goal for Egypt as they beat South Sudan 5-0 in the second round of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 18-year-old Barcelona forward came off the bench in the 86th minute, replacing Omar Marmoush, who had scored twice for Egypt.

Abdelkarim struck in added time to complete the emphatic victory. He reacted quickest after Osama Faisal’s effort was saved, following up to score from the rebound in front of goal.

The goal came in Abdelkarim’s eighth appearance for Egypt, having been used as a substitute in each of his international matches. He had played 97 minutes for his country before opening his account.

Abdelkarim also featured in four matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Despite making his international breakthrough, the young forward is still waiting for his first goal for Barcelona. He has made one appearance for the club in the current Spanish top-flight season, playing four minutes against Rayo Vallecano.
