Comoros beat Namibia 1-0 to revive Africa Cup of Nations qualifying hopes

Comoros secured their first points in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a narrow 1-0 victory over Namibia at the Malouzini Stadium in Moroni.

The result offered the Cœlacanthes a timely response after they were beaten on the opening matchday. They had to avoid another setback against the Brave Warriors and produced a controlled performance to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Hubert Velud’s side dominated possession and dictated the first half, but could not find a way through Namibia’s defence before the break.

The pattern continued after half-time, with Comoros maintaining the pressure. Their persistence was rewarded eight minutes after the restart when Bendjaloud Salmata Youssouf scored in the 53rd minute to put the hosts ahead.

Namibia responded by trying to recover from the setback, but Comoros remained organised and successfully protected their advantage until the final whistle.

The victory gives Comoros all three points from the second round of matches. They will next face Congo, while Namibia are scheduled to play the Lions indomptables du Cameroun.
