Ahmed Fattouh injury raises concern for Egypt and Zamalek ahead of derby

Ahmed Fattouh was substituted because of a thigh injury as Egypt beat South Sudan in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Egypt left-back asked coach Hossam Hassan to take him off in the 52nd minute of Tuesday evening’s Group B match at Juba Stadium after suffering an injury to the front of his thigh during a challenge.

Karim Hafez replaced Fattouh, who is due to undergo medical tests in the coming hours. The examinations will determine the extent of the injury and how long he may be unavailable.

The problem has also caused concern for Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal, with Fattouh regarded as an important member of the club’s squad in both the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.

Zamalek are preparing for a major Egyptian Premier League fixture against rivals Al Ahly on 11 October.
