Al Nassr offer three-year deal to Saudi goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi

Al Nassr have opened talks with Saudi goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi over a new three-year contract, amid reports that the club has made him a lucrative offer to remain at the club.

Al-Aqidi’s current deal expires at the end of this season. Unless an agreement is reached, he will be able to sign a pre-contract with another club during the winter transfer window before leaving Al Nassr on a free transfer in the summer.

Saudi journalist Saud Al-Sarami said on Al Arabiya FM that negotiations had begun between the club and the goalkeeper.

“What I know is that Al Nassr have started discussions with Nawaf Al-Aqidi to renew his contract for the next three years,” Al-Sarami said.

He also called on Al-Aqidi’s representative, Meshaal Al-Safaei, to work with the club’s management to find an agreement.

“I hope Meshaal Al-Safaei, Al-Aqidi’s agent, co-operates with Al Nassr’s management because the club and its supporters want the goalkeeper and do not want him to leave,” he added.

Al-Sarami said the terms being offered were already highly favourable, while urging both parties to keep their demands realistic.

“I hope the demands are logical and realistic, especially since Al Nassr’s current offer is considered the best contract for a Saudi, Arab and Gulf goalkeeper,” he said.

Al-Aqidi facing lengthy injury absence

Al-Aqidi is currently recovering from a serious injury sustained while playing for Saudi Arabia at the Arabian Gulf Cup “Gulf 27”.

The goalkeeper was injured during Saudi Arabia’s 1-0 victory over Kuwait in their opening group-stage match.

Al-Sarami said Al-Aqidi is expected to be unavailable for between five and 10 weeks and is due to travel to Europe for further treatment. The destination has not yet been decided, with England, Spain, Germany and France among the countries being considered.

“Al-Aqidi will be absent for between five and 10 weeks, and he will soon travel to Europe to complete his treatment. The country has not yet been determined, with England, Spain, Germany and France all possibilities,” Al-Sarami said.

He also described the injury as positive for Al Nassr, without providing further details.

Al-Aqidi was Al Nassr’s first-choice goalkeeper during the first half of last season. However, he subsequently lost his place to Brazilian goalkeeper Bento after making a number of errors.
