Senegal beat Ethiopia to claim first CAN 2027 qualifying victory

Senegal secured their first win of the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Ethiopia on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The result came in the second round of Group J fixtures, with Ibrahim Mbaye scoring the only goal of the match in the 11th minute. His early finish gave the Lions of Teranga a lead they would not surrender.

Ethiopia pushed for an equaliser, but Senegal held firm to protect their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The victory moves Senegal into a stronger position in Group J after they were held to a draw by Mozambique in their opening fixture.

The Lions of Teranga will now look to build on the result in their remaining matches as they continue their bid to qualify for CAN 2027.
