Werder Bremen lose Salim Musah to serious thigh injury

Werder Bremen have been dealt a serious setback after Salim Musah suffered a significant left-thigh injury while on international duty with Germany’s under-20 team.

The 20-year-old forward is expected to miss several months, leaving the Bundesliga club without a promising attacking option during a crucial part of the season.

Werder coach Daniel Thioune admitted the diagnosis was particularly difficult for both the player and the squad. “This is incredibly bitter for Salim, and I feel terribly sorry for him. It is also a severe setback for us as a team, because Salim has developed very well,” Thioune said.

The club’s medical staff are working closely with doctors from the German Football Association to establish the best treatment and rehabilitation programme. Thioune added: “We are supporting Salim in every way possible on his road to recovery. However, he will not be available again until the new year.”

Further reports indicate that Musah has suffered a torn muscle, an injury that is expected to require surgery. His absence could last approximately four months, meaning Werder may not see him return until early 2027.

Musah had recently begun making progress with the first team, making three appearances this season after featuring eight times during the previous campaign. His injury now interrupts that development and forces Bremen to reassess their attacking options.
