Olympiacos rule out move for Egypt striker Mostafa Mohamed

Olympiacos sporting director Darko Kovacevic has played down reports linking the Greek giants with a move for Nantes and Egypt striker Mostafa Mohamed during the current summer transfer window.

Mostafa Mohamed has been mentioned among the forwards who could leave Nantes this summer, with interest reportedly emerging from several European clubs.

The Egyptian striker has also been linked with a potential return to his homeland, with Al Ahly previously identified as a club interested in securing his services.

However, Olympiacos do not appear to be planning a move for the 28-year-old at this stage.

Kovacevic acknowledged that the club regularly monitors players across different markets but refused to confirm whether Mohamed is part of their plans.

“We follow good players everywhere, that’s normal, but I don’t like to reveal specific names, whether we are currently interested in them or not,” Kovacevic told Batolat in an exclusive interview.

The Olympiacos sporting director was more direct when discussing the club’s plans for the striker position, making it clear that strengthening their attack is not an immediate priority.

“We are not currently looking for a striker to strengthen the squad; this position is not among our priorities in the current summer transfer window,” he said.

Kovacevic, however, left the door open for the club to revisit the position later in the transfer window.

“We may consider strengthening the attacking position in the future, but at the moment we do not have an immediate need for a new striker,” he added.

The comments appear to reduce the likelihood of an immediate move to Olympiacos for Mohamed, despite reports of the Greek club being linked with the Egyptian forward.

Mohamed remains under contract with Nantes until the summer of 2027, although uncertainty continues to surround his future at the French club amid possible changes to the team’s technical setup.

The forward has continued to make an impression on the pitch, most recently scoring both of Nantes’ goals in their friendly victory over Laval.

His brace underlined his goalscoring ability at a time when his long-term future with Nantes remains unclear.

For now, Olympiacos’ position is clear: while the club continues to monitor players across the market, signing a new striker is not considered an immediate priority, putting any potential move for Mohamed on hold.
