Spain’s football federation is seeking a significantly improved financial agreement with Adidas after a period of strong results across its national teams.
The Spanish Football Federation has opened negotiations with the German sportswear company over an extension of their partnership through to 2030, according to French website Foot Mercato. Talks are understood to be taking place in a positive atmosphere, with both sides keen to continue a relationship that began in 1991.
The current agreement provides the Spanish federation with about 20 million euros, as well as performance-related bonuses. However, the federation believes that figure no longer reflects the growing standing of Spanish football and is seeking a substantial increase in the value of the next contract.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the succession of successes achieved by Spain’s various national teams should lead to greater financial recognition. Spain has become one of the most prominent football powers represented by Adidas, strengthening its position in negotiations with the company.
The federation hopes a new agreement can take effect from 2027 and run until 2030. It wants the contract to reflect the status Spanish football has established on the international stage, following the recent achievements of its national sides.
Further talks are expected in the coming days as the two parties work through the financial and commercial details of the proposed deal. If completed, the agreement could become one of the most significant sponsorship contracts involving national teams.
