Morocco winger Gessime Yassine tops Ligue 1 dribbling charts after five games

Moroccan winger Gessime Yassine has emerged as Ligue 1’s leading dribbler after the opening five rounds of the 2026/27 season, underlining his growing influence at Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old has completed 18 successful take-ons in five league appearances, according to data from Squawka, putting him eight clear of Paris Saint-Germain’s Désiré Doué and Auxerre’s Lamine Sy, who have each recorded 10.

Yassine’s ability to beat defenders has been one of the standout features of his performances for Strasbourg since the start of the campaign.

The Morocco international had already established himself as Ligue 1’s leading dribbler after just two rounds of matches.

The league’s official website credited Yassine with eight successful take-ons from 14 attempts at that stage, and he has since extended his lead at the top of the rankings.

His influence, however, goes beyond his ability to take on defenders.

Yassine has been fouled 15 times, the second-highest figure in Ligue 1, while his five big chances created rank him fourth in the competition after five rounds, according to figures cited by Le Progrès.

He has also recovered possession 30 times, placing him 10th in the league, and has won 45 duels in his opening five appearances.

Goals and assists add to Yassine’s impact

The young winger has also contributed directly to Strasbourg’s attacking output.

Yassine has scored twice and provided one assist in his five league appearances, with both goals coming in Strasbourg’s 2-1 victory over Lens in August.

That match saw the Moroccan score his first professional brace and provided another indication of his growing importance to the French club.

His performances also add to the growing profile of Moroccan players in Ligue 1, with Yassine continuing to establish himself after moving into a regular starting role at Strasbourg.

Harit also features among leading dribblers

Yassine is not the only Moroccan player featuring prominently in the early-season dribbling statistics.

Marseille midfielder Amine Harit is also among Ligue 1’s leading dribblers, with El Botola ranking him eighth with eight successful take-ons.

Other statistical providers have similarly highlighted Harit’s effectiveness when carrying the ball, while the Morocco international has also registered one assist for Marseille during the opening weeks of the campaign.
