Cameroon star Karl Toko Ekambi joins Qatari second-tier club Umm Salal

Cameroon international Karl Toko Ekambi has found a new club after signing for Qatari second-division side Umm Salal SC.

The 34-year-old striker had been a free agent since leaving Al Arabi SC, where he spent last season competing in the Qatar Stars League.

Toko Ekambi has now decided to remain in Qatar, agreeing to join Umm Salal on a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2026-2027 season.

The move represents a new chapter for the experienced forward, who will be expected to use his considerable experience to strengthen Umm Salal’s attacking options as the club competes in the second tier of Qatari football.

Toko Ekambi has enjoyed an extensive career in European football, representing several clubs, including Villarreal, Lyon, Angers, Paris FC and Rennes.

The Cameroon international also brings considerable experience at international level, having been a regular member of the Indomitable Lions squad over the years.

Despite moving into the Qatari second division, Toko Ekambi demonstrated his ability to contribute in front of goal during his previous spell in the country.

Last season, he scored five goals in nine appearances for Al Arabi in the Qatar Stars League, giving him a strong platform to continue his career in the region.

Umm Salal will now hope the veteran forward can reproduce that attacking form and provide the goals needed to strengthen their campaign.

For Toko Ekambi, the move offers an opportunity to relaunch his career after becoming a free agent and continue playing regular competitive football.

The Cameroonian will now turn his attention to settling into his new surroundings and helping Umm Salal achieve their objectives during the 2026-2027 season.
