AFCON 2027: Wissa inspires DR Congo win as Tunisia are held by Botswana

DR Congo maintained their perfect start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe, while Tunisia were held to a second successive draw by Botswana.

Yoane Wissa scored once and created the other goal for Samuel Moutoussamy as DR Congo claimed a hard-fought win in Harare on Monday.

Marshall Munetsi scored late for Zimbabwe, but DR Congo held on to move top of Group E with six points from their opening two matches.

Equatorial Guinea recorded their first victory in the same group, beating Sierra Leone 1-0 in Yaounde, where the match was played at a neutral venue. Loren Zuniga scored in the opening minute to settle the contest.

Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea have three points each, while Sierra Leone remain without a point after their first two fixtures.

Tunisia and Botswana share four goals

Tunisia’s hopes of making an early impression in Group H were checked again as they drew 2-2 with Botswana in Rades.

The Eagles of Carthage had begun their campaign with a 1-1 draw against co-hosts Uganda and are still without a win. Botswana also remain unbeaten after following up their opening 2-2 draw with Libya by earning a point away from home.

Thatayaone Kgamanyane put the visitors in front in the 37th minute, but Hazem Mastouri scored twice – either side of half-time – to put Tunisia ahead.

Botswana responded strongly, with Lebogang Ditsele equalising on the hour to ensure the points were shared.

Tunisia and Botswana both have two points in Group H, with Uganda due to play Libya on Tuesday.

Uganda are already guaranteed a place at the finals as co-hosts, alongside Kenya and Tanzania. That means only the highest-placed team outside Uganda will qualify from Group H, increasing the importance of every point.

Burkina Faso edge Central African Republic

Burkina Faso moved to four points in Group F after Aboubacar Camara scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Central African Republic in Casablanca.

The teenager struck on the hour mark in just his second senior appearance to secure the win for Burkina Faso.

Mauritania, who have three points, and Benin, on one point, are due to complete their Matchday 2 fixtures in Abidjan on Tuesday as the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers continue.
