AFCON 2027 qualifiers: RD Congo and Burkina Faso claim crucial away wins

The second round of Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying produced important victories for RD Congo and Burkina Faso on Monday, 28 September, while Tunisia were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Botswana.

RD Congo overcame Zimbabwe 2-1, with the Leopards showing composure and taking their chances to secure a valuable win away from home. The result gives them early momentum in their qualifying group.

Burkina Faso also returned from an away fixture with three points after beating the Central African Republic 1-0. The Stallions did what was required in a closely contested match to strengthen their position in the campaign.

Equatorial Guinea made the most of home advantage by defeating Sierra Leone 1-0. The Nzalang Nacional controlled the game in front of their supporters and secured victory despite a performance that lacked attacking fluency.

Tunisia were unable to complete a winning evening in front of their own fans. The Eagles of Carthage were made to work by an energetic Botswana side and had to settle for a high-scoring draw, dropping valuable points in the race for top spot.
