Eric Tinkler set to take charge of Durban City after Asante Kotoko exit

South African coach Eric Tinkler is expected to become the new head coach of Durban City after Asante Kotoko agreed to release him from his contract.

Tinkler’s appointment follows the departure of Khalil Ben Youssef, who was dismissed by the Durban-based club after seven matches in charge.

Ben Youssef’s record at City consisted of one win, four draws and two defeats. He also guided the team into the second round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Tinkler is expected to begin work in Durban this week, giving him two weeks with the squad before the Betway Premiership resumes.

His departure from Asante Kotoko comes only three months after he took charge of the Ghanaian club. The club confirmed in a statement that the former Cape Town City manager had left his position.

Tinkler was in the dugout for Kotoko’s 2-0 defeat by Aduana Stars on Sunday afternoon. It was the Ghanaian giants’ first defeat of the season after four matches.

Despite the brief spell, Tinkler had already won a trophy during his time with Asante Kotoko.

City will now look to the experienced South African to improve their results when domestic league action returns. His arrival is set to mark a swift return to club management after his short tenure in Ghana.
