Togo seek another positive result as Zambia look to recover in CAN 2027 qualifying

Togo will look to maintain their encouraging start to the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign when they visit Zambia on Tuesday.

The Eperviers defeated Burundi 1-0 in their previous match and will aim to follow that result with another strong performance against the Chipolopolos at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The fixture is the second day of qualifying for CAN 2027, with Togo hoping to return home with at least a point from their trip to Zambia.

The two nations have met several times, including in World Cup qualifying. Togo hold the better overall record, having won five of the meetings compared with three victories for Zambia.

Their most recent encounter came in a friendly on 27 May 2016. Togo won that match 1-0 at Stade de Kegue.

Contrasting form

Zambia head into the fixture under pressure after a difficult run of results. Their latest match ended in a 3-1 defeat by Algeria, while they have also lost to Argentina and Morocco.

The Chipolopolos have scored only once in their past five matches, highlighting the problems they have faced in attack. They will nevertheless be seeking a response in front of their home supporters.

Togo arrive with greater confidence after their narrow win against Burundi. Their recent results have included a convincing 5-1 victory over Benin, giving the Eperviers reason to believe they can trouble Zambia.

However, Togo will need to combine attacking efficiency with defensive discipline if they are to withstand a Zambia side determined to recover.

The match is expected to be closely contested, although Togo appear capable of making life difficult for the hosts. The Eperviers are considered slight favourites to secure at least a positive result.
