Silas comeback at Mainz 05 could be delayed until 2027

Silas’ comeback at Mainz 05 now appears increasingly unlikely to happen before 2027, leaving the winger facing a longer recovery than initially hoped.

The 27-year-old has been sidelined since March after suffering fractures to the tibia and fibula in his left leg. Although he continues working toward full fitness, Mainz are taking no chances with a player who has already endured several months away from competitive football.

“Especially Dominik after his surgery, but also Silas after this long injury break, will still need some time,” sporting director Niko Bungert said, referring to Silas and teammate Dominik Kohr, who is recovering from a syndesmosis injury.

According to reports, it will be “very tight” for both players to feature again before the end of 2026. No specific return date has been set for Silas, and Mainz are expected to monitor his progress carefully rather than rush him into action.

The current international break has provided additional recovery time for the club’s injured players. “The long international break naturally helps the injured players continue to make progress,” Bungert explained.

Silas’ eventual return would strengthen Mainz’s attacking options, but the club’s priority remains ensuring he completes his rehabilitation properly. For now, supporters may have to wait until next year to see him back in competitive action.
