AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Comoros and Namibia meet in Group G battle – Preview

Comoros will be aiming to get their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign moving when they welcome Namibia in a Group G clash on Tuesday.

The Coelacanths were beaten 3-1 by Cameroon in their opening match, but the scoreline does not tell the whole story of their performance. After falling two goals behind, Comoros responded through Warmed Omari and briefly threatened to make the contest uncomfortable before Cameroon settled the game late.

They now return home with the opportunity to put that disappointment behind them.

Namibia arrive in Moroni with three points already secured after edging Congo 1-0 in their opening fixture. Bethuel Muzeu’s second-half header was enough to give the Brave Warriors the perfect start.

The visitors will therefore be looking to combine the defensive discipline that earned them victory against Congo with greater attacking ambition as they face a Comoros side expected to be more aggressive on home soil.

For Comoros, the key will be turning their positive moments into goals. They showed against Cameroon that they can create a response after going behind, but they cannot afford to give Namibia an early advantage.

Namibia, meanwhile, have an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top end of the group with another victory. Six points from their first two matches would give the Brave Warriors a valuable cushion before they face the stronger challenges still to come.

The encounter also gives Comoros the chance to use home conditions to their advantage. A win would put them level with Namibia and immediately open up the Group G race.

With Cameroon also beginning the campaign with three points, the pressure is already on the other teams to keep pace.

Comoros and Namibia therefore enter the match with very different objectives. The hosts need a response, while Namibia are looking to turn a winning start into sustained momentum.

The match will be played at the Stade Omnisports de Malouzini in Moroni, with kick-off scheduled for 11:00 GMT on Tuesday, September 29.

A Comoros victory would bring the group back into balance, while another Namibia win would give the Brave Warriors an early advantage in the battle for the two qualification places.
