Nikolas Nartey edges closer to Stuttgart return after thigh injury

Nikolas Nartey is stepping up his comeback at VfB Stuttgart after recovering from a thigh muscle injury, with the Danish midfielder moving closer to a meaningful first-team role.

The 26-year-old made a brief late appearance in Stuttgart’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund before returning to the starting line-up for the friendly win over Heidenheim. As planned, Nartey completed the opening 30 minutes, an important milestone in his rehabilitation.

Stuttgart intend to increase his workload again in Thursday’s friendly against Greuther Furth. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß expects him to play longer as the club carefully rebuilds his fitness ahead of the Bundesliga’s return.

“We assume that he can increase his minutes on Thursday,” Hoeneß said.

Nartey’s versatility makes his return particularly welcome. Able to cover multiple roles, he offers Stuttgart tactical flexibility that Hoeneß believes the side has missed during his absence.

“Then, with his flexibility, he is an important player for us, one we have missed a little,” the Stuttgart manager added.

If he comes through the Fürth match without problems, Nartey could have a larger part to play after the international break. His gradual reintroduction reflects Stuttgart’s desire to avoid rushing the midfielder back too soon.
