Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone target first points in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying

Equatorial Guinea host Sierra Leone on Monday at 16:00 GMT, with both sides seeking to recover from defeats on the opening day of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns.

Neither team has collected a point so far, making the second-round meeting an early opportunity to revive their hopes of reaching the tournament.

Sierra Leone appeared on course for victory against Zimbabwe after establishing a 2-0 lead. However, the Lone Stars surrendered their advantage before eventually being beaten by the Warriors.

They must now put that collapse behind them and remain focused against Equatorial Guinea, who also began their campaign with a defeat.

Equatorial Guinea were beaten 2-0 by Democratic Republic of the Congo, failing to withstand the pressure from the Leopards. The result left the Nzalang Nacional without a point ahead of their first home fixture of the qualifying schedule.

Both teams therefore face the same objective on Monday: secure a result and avoid falling further behind in the race for qualification. With neither side having opened its account, victory would provide an important boost, while another defeat would leave their hopes under significant pressure.
