Asante Kotoko part company with Eric Tinkler after two months

Asante Kotoko have confirmed the immediate departure of head coach Eric Tinkler, citing personal reasons for the decision.

The South African took charge of the Ghanaian club in July after leaving Sekhukhune United a few months earlier. His time with the Porcupine Warriors lasted only two months.

Tinkler oversaw four official matches during his short spell, recording one victory, two draws and one defeat.

In a statement published on its social media platforms, Asante Kotoko said Tinkler had asked to be released from his contract.

“The Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has agreed to the request of its Head Coach, Mr Eric Tinkler, to be released from his contract with the Club effective immediately for personal reasons,” the club said.

The club added that discussions had taken place in an effort to prevent the coaching change from happening at this stage of the relationship.

“Earlier on, both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision at this time of the relationship between the parties but finally had to respect the Coach’s decision,” the statement said.

Tinkler, a former Bafana Bafana midfielder, arrived at Asante Kotoko after his departure from Sekhukhune United. However, his four-match record means he leaves before being able to establish a sustained run of results with the club.

Asante Kotoko said professionalism, commitment and focus were necessary for the club to reach the key performance indices set as part of its current objectives.

The club thanked Tinkler for his conduct and efforts during his brief tenure.

“The Club is grateful for Coach Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment to the success of the club during his rather short stint with the Porcupine Warriors and wishes him well in his next endeavours,” it said.

The statement confirmed that Asante Kotoko’s sporting plans would continue without an immediate announcement of a new head coach.

The club’s Technical Team will proceed with its strategies under the leadership of Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo.

“The Club remains focused on its sporting objectives as the Technical Team is poised to proceed with the Club’s strategies to achieve its objectives under the leadership of the Director of Football, Mr Stanley Purl Menzo,” Asante Kotoko added.
