Eric Tinkler leaves Asante Kotoko after Aduana defeat

Asante Kotoko have parted company with head coach Eric Tinkler after the South African requested to leave the club for personal reasons following the defeat by Aduana.

The Porcupine Warriors confirmed on Monday, September 28, 2026, that Tinkler had been released from his contract with immediate effect after the Board of Directors approved his request.

The club said discussions had taken place with the coach in an attempt to convince him to remain in charge, but both sides ultimately agreed to respect his decision to leave.

Tinkler’s departure comes after the coach’s brief spell at the Kumasi-based club, with Kotoko now preparing to continue their season without him in the dugout.

Tinkler asks to leave Kotoko

According to Asante Kotoko’s statement, Tinkler informed the club that he wanted to be released from his duties for personal reasons.

The Board of Directors subsequently considered his request and approved his departure after holding discussions aimed at preventing the separation.

The club said the negotiations between the two parties were constructive, but they did not change Tinkler’s decision.

As a result, the South African coach has now left his position with immediate effect.

Club respects coach’s decision

Kotoko said it respected the decision taken by Tinkler after discussions with the club.

The Porcupine Warriors also placed emphasis on the standards they believe are required as they pursue their sporting objectives.

The club stressed that professionalism, commitment and complete focus remain important to achieving its performance targets and longer-term sporting ambitions.

Kotoko also thanked Tinkler for his contribution during his time in charge and recognised his professionalism and dedication.

The club wished the coach success in the next stage of his coaching career following his departure.

Kotoko continue with sporting strategy

Despite the change in the coaching position, Asante Kotoko said their objectives for the season remain unchanged.

The club confirmed that its technical team will continue working on the sporting strategy while plans for the future are developed.

Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo will lead the technical team as the club moves forward following Tinkler’s departure.

Kotoko said this approach would allow the club to continue implementing its sporting strategy while discussions over the future direction of the team take place.

Board confirms immediate departure

The decision was formally announced in a statement issued by Asante Kotoko on Monday.

The statement was signed by Secretary to the Board A. K. Osei-Owusu on behalf of the Board of Directors.

The club’s announcement confirmed that Tinkler’s departure was based on his request to be released from his duties and that the Board had approved the request after discussions with him.

There will now be a change in the technical leadership of the Porcupine Warriors, although the club says its wider sporting plans will continue.

Kotoko’s focus remains on achieving the targets set for the season, with the technical team continuing its work under the leadership of Menzo while the club considers its next steps.
