Cape Verde World Cup hero Vozinha is facing an uncertain future at Chilean giants Colo-Colo, just months after playing a key role in the Blue Sharks’ historic campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper’s future at the club has reportedly been thrown into doubt due to his limited playing time, with his current contract containing a clause that could determine whether he remains at Colo-Colo beyond the end of the year.

Vozinha’s contract with Colo-Colo runs until the end of 2026 with an automatic 12-month extension if he manages at least 50 percent minutes during the relevant calculation period.

However, the veteran goalkeeper has struggled to secure regular first-team football since returning from the World Cup, putting the automatic extension in serious doubt.

Vozinha has made only two appearances in the Chilean league this season, playing 180 minutes, conceding one goal and keeping one clean sheet. He also started Colo-Colo’s 3-0 Chile Cup victory over Unión Española.

Should he fail to reach the required 50 percent playing-time threshold, his current contract would not be terminated immediately. Instead, the automatic extension for 2027 would not be activated.

That would leave Vozinha and Colo-Colo free to negotiate a new agreement if both parties are interested in continuing their relationship. Without a fresh deal, the experienced goalkeeper could leave the club as a free agent once his current contract expires at the end of 2026.

The uncertainty comes after Vozinha enjoyed the biggest moment of his international career at the World Cup.

He started all four of Cape Verde’s matches at the tournament and kept two clean sheets during the group stage, including a memorable 0-0 draw against Spain.

Cape Verde’s impressive campaign elevated Vozinha’s profile, with the veteran goalkeeper playing an important role as the Blue Sharks competed on the world stage for the first time.

However, his return to international duty after the tournament produced a difficult evening.

Vozinha started Cape Verde’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali on September 25, but the Blue Sharks suffered a 3-1 defeat away from home.

The goalkeeper was directly involved in Mali’s third goal after losing possession outside his penalty area, adding to a frustrating night for Cape Verde.

His contrasting fortunes at club and international level have now placed his future under the spotlight.

After becoming one of the heroes of Cape Verde’s historic World Cup campaign, Vozinha faces a battle for regular playing time at Colo-Colo and, potentially, his long-term future with the Chilean club.
