Algeria begin Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying with win over Zambia

Algeria made a winning start to their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign by beating Zambia 3-1 in their Group I opener.

Jaouen Hadjam put the Fennecs ahead after just two minutes, giving Algeria an early advantage and setting the tone for a lively contest.

Zambia levelled 12 minutes after the interval when Fashion Sakala scored in the 57th minute. The equaliser did not unsettle Algeria, who responded by regaining control of the match.

Ibrahim Maza restored Algeria’s lead in the 67th minute before Anis Hadj Moussa completed the victory seven minutes later.

The 3-1 result gives Algeria a positive start to the CAN 2027 qualifiers. They will face Burundi on 29 September.
