Togo open CAN 2027 qualifying campaign with narrow Burundi win

Togo began their CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over Burundi in Group I.

Karim Dermane scored the only goal in the 17th minute as the Eperviers made a winning start in a match they largely controlled.

Togo began with greater intensity, competing strongly in the challenges and posing the more consistent threat in attack. Their early pressure was rewarded when Dermane found the net to put his side ahead.

The goal gave Togo the platform to manage the game on their terms. They maintained control of the contest after taking the lead and limited Burundi’s opportunities to change the direction of the match.

Burundi attempted to respond and created several efforts as they searched for an equaliser, but they were unable to breach Togo’s defence or find a way past the goalkeeper.

The result gives Togo their first points in Group I of the CAN 2027 qualifiers and provides a positive beginning to their campaign. The Eperviers can now prepare for the next stage of their qualification schedule with confidence.
