Stellenbosch FC sign Ghana goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi on long-term deal

Stellenbosch FC have completed the signing of Ghana international goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi on a long-term contract.

The Cape club confirmed the arrival on Friday, following reports in early August that Stellenbosch were considering strengthening their goalkeeping department with the 25-year-old.

“ We are delighted to announce the signing of Ghana international goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi on a long-term deal,” Stellenbosch said in a statement.

Agbasi recently travelled with Ghana’s national team as a reserve for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. He previously played for Hearts of Oak and will now join Stellenbosch’s goalkeeping department.

The Ghanaian will compete for a place alongside Sage Stephens and Nathan Garrow at the Maroons.

Agbasi said he had already settled into his new surroundings and was eager to contribute to the club’s ambitions.

“I feel very excited to be part of Stellenbosch FC. Football has always given me a place to call home, and I feel like I am at home. Everyone has welcomed me and I feel good to be here,” he said.

His immediate objective is to help Stellenbosch return to the top four in the league before challenging for major honours in future seasons.

“I’m hoping to help the team get back to the top four in the league, and from there compete for the league and in the CAF Confederation Cup or Champions League in the coming seasons,” Agbasi added.

The goalkeeper will wear the number 16 shirt this season. His first appearance could come on 17 October, when Stellenbosch face Kaizer Chiefs.

The club also announced another signing earlier on Friday, confirming the arrival of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom.

Blom joins Stellenbosch on loan from Indonesian club Borneo Samarinda, adding further depth to the squad alongside Agbasi.
