Barcelona prepare contract extension for Baba Kourouma

Barcelona are preparing to extend Baba Kourouma’s contract after the 17-year-old academy player impressed with his development and remarkable versatility.

The club reportedly sees him as an important prospect for the future.

Kourouma has gradually moved from defensive midfield into central defence, where his reading of the game and physical presence have strengthened his profile. He can also operate at left-back, return to midfield or play as a number 10, giving Barcelona several options.

The teenager, who is the brother of former Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba, made 43 appearances at Juvenil level last season and was trusted with the captain’s armband. His progress has also earned him a call-up to Spain’s Under-18 squad after completing the necessary eligibility paperwork.

Kourouma’s current agreement runs until 2028, but Barcelona want to secure his long-term future before his value rises further. The youngster has attracted interest from other clubs in the past, yet he has consistently chosen to remain at La Masia.
