Trabzonspor agree deal for Jerome Boateng to join Thomas Reis’ coaching staff

Trabzonspor have reached an agreement with former Germany defender Jerome Boateng for him to become an assistant coach.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Turkish club have agreed terms with the German to join the coaching staff led by his compatriot, Thomas Reis.

The appointment has not yet been made official. If confirmed, it would represent Boateng’s second coaching role after he previously worked as an assistant with the second team of Austrian club LASK.

Boateng, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, would join the Trabzonspor set-up after a standout performance from Mohamed Salah helped the club secure a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the sixth round of the Turkish league before the international break.

Salah scored a hat-trick and provided the assist for Trabzonspor’s other goal, meaning he was directly involved in every goal in the match.

The Egypt captain moved to the top of the Turkish league scoring charts with seven goals. He is one goal ahead of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who has scored six.

The hat-trick was Salah’s first in the Turkish league.

It was also his first treble for a club since he scored three times against Rangers on 12 October 2022 in the Champions League group stage.

Salah’s most recent hat-trick in any competition had come on 16 November 2023, when he scored four goals against Djibouti in World Cup qualifying.
