Chiefs Ladies move closer to promotion after narrow Hallelujah Zebra Force win

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies strengthened their promotion prospects with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hallelujah Zebra Force in the Gauteng Sasol Women’s Provincial League at Bana Sports Ground on Thursday.

The result completed a league double for the Glamour Girls, who had beaten the same opponents 5-3 at Naturena Village in early July.

Unathi Mabena’s side arrived in confident form after a 2-1 victory against Young Achievers FC, a result that had helped them retain top spot in the standings.

They were made to work for another three points against Hallelujah Zebra Force, but Lumka Qhekeka’s 21st-minute goal proved decisive. Chiefs Ladies defended their advantage to secure another away win.

The victory takes Amakhosazana to 64 points from 26 matches and extends their unbeaten run to 14 games. They have won 13 of those fixtures and drawn one, scoring 35 goals during that sequence.

Chiefs Ladies’ remaining matches will be focused on maintaining their perfect finish as they pursue promotion. Their hopes will also depend on second-placed Wits University dropping points in their remaining fixtures.

Wits University have played two matches fewer than the leaders.
