Stellenbosch sign former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom on loan

Stellenbosch FC have signed midfielder Njabulo Blom on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League club Borneo Samarinda.

The 26-year-old, who will wear the number 35 shirt, returns to work with Stellenbosch head coach Gavin Hunt after previously playing under him at Kaizer Chiefs.

The move was confirmed by Stellenbosch on Friday morning, with the formalities completed before Monday’s transfer deadline. Blom has since arrived in Stellenbosch and will remain with the Maroons for the rest of the season.

“I’m excited to be here, and to start this journey in a new environment,” Blom said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and building relationships with my new teammates. I will do my best to help the team and see what we can achieve together.

“Stellenbosch is a professional and well-run club, and players who have played here in the past have enjoyed success, so I felt that it was a good environment for me to grow and to play competitive football again.

“I know coach Gavin [Hunt] demands a lot from his players and that will also help me improve and get back to my best.”

Blom has two Bafana Bafana caps and brings both domestic and international experience to the Stellenbosch squad.

He has had two spells at Kaizer Chiefs, with a period overseas between them at Major League Soccer club St. Louis City in the United States of America.

His arrival gives Hunt another experienced option in midfield as Stellenbosch prepare for the remainder of the campaign.

Blom could make his debut against his former club when Stellenbosch face Kaizer Chiefs in a league match on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
