AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Burkina Faso held by Benin in Group F

Burkina Faso and Benin played out a 1-1 draw in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at Stade du 4 Aout on Friday.

Lassina Traore gave Burkina Faso the lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute before Aiyegun Tosin converted a second-half penalty to earn Benin a point.

Traore puts Burkina Faso ahead

Burkina Faso took the lead after 20 minutes when Traore stepped up to convert from the spot.

The hosts were unable to build on their advantage, with Benin staying in the contest as they searched for an equaliser.

Tosin restores parity

Benin levelled in the 68th minute when Tosin also found the net from the penalty spot.

The equaliser ensured the two sides shared the points in their opening Group F fixture.

Mauritania lead Group F

The draw leaves Mauritania at the top of Group F, with Benin and Burkina Faso following behind.

Central African Republic are bottom of the group without a point.
