Juventus consider move for Belgian-Moroccan striker Loïs Openda transfer

Juventus are reportedly prepared to open talks with Lyon over a potential future transfer for Belgium international of Moroccan descent Loïs Openda.

The forward joined Lyon on loan this summer from Juventus after struggling to make the desired impact during his first season in Turin. The 26-year-old forward has since enjoyed a positive start to life in France, showing signs of regaining the confidence and consistency that made him one of Europe’s highly regarded attacking players.

The Belgian has started all nine of his appearances for Lyon so far, contributing two goals and one assist in the process.

Beyond his direct goal contributions, Openda has impressed with his pace, athleticism and ability to combine with his teammates, qualities that have made him an important part of Lyon’s attacking setup.

His performances could now create an interesting situation for Juventus, who still hold his contract until 2030 but may have to decide whether he remains part of their long-term plans.

Openda endured a difficult first campaign in Italy, scoring just twice in 34 appearances after arriving from RB Leipzig. The striker subsequently opted for a move to Lyon in search of regular football and an opportunity to rebuild his form.

According to the report, Juventus could consider discussing a permanent transfer with Lyon if Openda continues to impress throughout his loan spell.

However, the Italian giants are not guaranteed to bring him back into their plans, even if he enjoys a successful campaign in France. Juventus could instead look to recruit another striker next summer as they assess their attacking options.

The potential departure of Openda, combined with the future of Jonathan David, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, could form part of Juventus’ wider plans to reshape their forward line.

For now, Openda’s immediate focus remains on maintaining his strong start at Lyon and proving that he can once again perform consistently at the highest level.
