Cameroon open Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with 3-1 win over Comoros

Cameroon began their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Comoros at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

The result puts the Indomitable Lions top of Group G after the opening round of fixtures, with David Pagou’s side making a confident start on home soil.

Cameroon controlled the match for long periods and finished with 67% possession, using their authority in midfield and sustained pressure to create the decisive moments.

Their dominance was rewarded in the 39th minute when D. Nyengue opened the scoring. Danny Namaso provided the assist, allowing Cameroon to take a one-goal lead into half-time after a largely controlled first half.

The hosts extended their advantage only three minutes after the restart. Bryan Mbeumo struck in the 48th minute to make it 2-0 and place Cameroon firmly in command.

Comoros responded quickly, with W. Omari reducing the deficit in the 51st minute. The goal briefly gave the visitors encouragement, but Cameroon soon regained control and continued to dictate the game.

Namaso completed the scoring in the 81st minute, adding a third goal after being set up by Junior Tchamadeu. His goal capped a strong individual performance in which he contributed both a goal and an assist.

Cameroon’s disciplined display and attacking efficiency secured a comfortable opening win and sent them straight to the top of Group G. The Indomitable Lions will now turn their attention to their next fixture, an away match against Congo.
