Ibrahima Konate suffers injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that Franco-Malian defender Ibrahima Konate has returned to the club after withdrawing from the France squad during the current international break due to injury.

The French Football Federation announced earlier that Konate had left the national team camp after experiencing discomfort in his knee, with initial reports suggesting the issue was a minor sprain.

Real Madrid have now provided further details, confirming that the French defender is suffering from an injury to the lateral ligament of his right leg.

The Spanish giants did not specify how long Konate is expected to remain on the sidelines, stating only that his recovery will be monitored in the coming days.

However, reports in Spain indicate that the injury is not considered serious and could keep the defender out of action for around two weeks.

Konate’s latest setback will nevertheless be monitored closely given his history of knee problems during his time at Liverpool over the past two years.

According to reports, the Real Madrid defender could recover in time to feature against Villarreal on October 10 in La Liga. However, Mundo Deportivo has expressed doubts over whether Konate will be fit enough to return for that fixture.

The injury comes at an inconvenient time for Real Madrid, who have already seen Federico Valverde suffer a recent setback.

The Spanish giants will now monitor both players closely as they assess their respective recovery timelines, with Konate’s return to full fitness set to be determined by his progress over the coming days.
