Liverpool join Premier League rivals in race for Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey during the next summer transfer window, according to Darren Lewis of talkSPORT.

The Reds could now compete with Manchester United and Arsenal for the 24-year-old, who has made a strong impression in his first season in the Premier League.

Sunderland are understood to have set an asking price of £50m, equivalent to about €58.2m, for the Netherlands international of Ghanaian descent.

Liverpool’s interest reflects their desire to strengthen their attacking options and remain competitive in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. However, the centre-forward position is not thought to be an immediate priority at Anfield, with Alexander Isak now regarded as an undisputed starter.

Brobbey joined Sunderland in September 2025 for £25m, or approximately €29.1m, and signed a contract running until June 2029. His valuation has therefore doubled in the space of a year.

The striker has scored seven goals and provided one assist in 31 appearances during his first Premier League campaign. His contribution has helped Sunderland secure qualification for the UEFA Europa League.

Brobbey further increased attention on his performances last Sunday when he scored a hat-trick against Manchester City.

Manchester United and Arsenal monitoring situation

Manchester United are reportedly considering making a move during the January 2027 transfer window, with the club looking at Brobbey as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee.

Arsenal are also following developments closely. The Gunners view Brobbey as a possible alternative to Viktor Gyokeres if the striker leaves the club at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Liverpool’s apparent interest could depend on how the club assesses its existing attacking options. With Isak established as the first-choice centre-forward, Brobbey’s route to regular starts may be less certain at Anfield than at either Manchester United or Arsenal.

Talks involving the player’s representatives could begin to develop later this year. Brobbey’s agents are expected to hold informal meetings with officials from Manchester United and Arsenal in November and December 2026.

The level of interest from three major Premier League clubs, together with Sunderland’s reported €58.2m starting price, is likely to make Brobbey one of the leading names in the next transfer discussions.

Before then, Sunderland are due to face Brighton in their sixth match of the English league season.
