Egypt name Mohamed Hamad and Anas Roshdy to lead attack against Libya

Egypt’s 2007-born youth team will begin their North African Championship campaign against Libya with Mohamed Hamad and Anas Roshdy in the starting line-up.

Head coach Wael Riyad has selected the Zamalek midfielder and the Enppi forward for the opening match at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

Both players were part of Egypt’s youth squad that competed at last year’s World Cup in Qatar under manager Ahmed El-Kass.

Mahmoud Salah, the new Al Ahly player, starts the match on the substitutes’ bench.

Egypt will line up as follows:

Goalkeeper: Omar Abdel Aziz

Defenders: Nour Ashraf, Eyad Medhat, Mohamed Awad, Mohannad El-Shamy

Midfielders: Mohamed Samir “Konta”, Mohamed Raafat, Mohamed Hamad

Forwards: Omar El-Azab, Anas Roshdy, Mohamed Haitham

Substitutes: Eyad Tamer, Yassin Atef, Mahmoud Salah, Abdullah Bedeir, Younes El-Mallah, Omar Amin, Ali El-Gargary, Mohamed Farag, Adham Karim

Egypt are hosting this year’s North African Championship in Ismailia from 24 September to 6 October.

The competition features Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Algeria and Tunisia drew 1-1 in the tournament’s opening match.

The top two teams will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Ghana in February 2027.
