Pyramids respond to Al Ahly rumours involving Mohannad Lasheen and Mahmoud Marei

Al Ahly have been linked with Pyramids duo Mohannad Lasheen and Mahmoud Marei, but reports that the pair have already agreed deals to join the Egyptian giants have been disputed.

Former Egypt international Ahmed Shobeir addressed the rumours during a radio interview, saying there had been claims that the two Pyramids players were on their way to Al Ahly.

“There was a lot of talk that some Pyramids players were going to Al-Ahly, and that the deal with Mohannad Lashin and Mahmoud Marei is finalised.”

Pyramids clarify players’ contract situation

According to Shobeir, Pyramids have moved to clarify the contractual situations of Lasheen and Marei, with both players reportedly tied to the club until the end of 2028.

“Pyramids said that the duo’s contract with the club will end at the end of 2028, meaning there are two years left, and it will be renewed for another 3 years.”

Shobeir also addressed speculation surrounding another Pyramids player, Zico, saying his contract runs until 2029.

“Zico is still contracted until 2029, and it’s good that Pyramids clarified things to end the controversy and all the talk that’s been going on.”

The comments cast doubt on suggestions that Lasheen and Marei have already finalised moves to Al Ahly.

Shobeir discusses Al Ahly basketball incident

Shobeir also spoke about the Egyptian Basketball Federation’s punishment of Al Ahly player Amr Zahran following an incident during the match against Al-Qanah.

“I made sure that Al-Ahly imposed a strong and significant internal penalty on the player, and I asked the Basketball Federation to apply the regulations. No one is ever against principles, ethics, or respect at all.”

He called for the regulations to be applied consistently across Egyptian basketball.

“We ask that this be a regulation and that it be applied to everyone, not to one player and leave out another. I have no doubt whatsoever that my dear friend Amr Moselhy, the president of the Basketball Federation, will apply the system and regulations to everyone.”

Shobeir said Zahran had accepted responsibility for his actions and deserved the three-month suspension imposed by the Basketball Federation.

“Amr Zahran made a mistake, yes he made a mistake and deserved the punishment (a 3-month suspension). He admitted the mistake. They told me that he reconciled with the Al-Qanah player. Whether it was a mobile phone recording or a media centre recording, whatever the behaviour was, it was not nice. He has already received a punishment, and the Basketball Federation will strike with an iron fist so that he does not think of doing that again”
