Zamalek to face ZED at Al Mokawloon Al Arab Stadium in Egypt Capital Cup

Zamalek’s Egypt Capital Cup group-stage opener against ZED will be played at Al Mokawloon Al Arab Stadium on 7 October.

The fixture had initially been scheduled for Cairo Stadium, but the venue will not host club matches during the current period. Cairo Stadium is due to return to use for the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek on 11 October.

The change also affects another Egypt Capital Cup match, with Modern Sport’s meeting with National Bank of Egypt moved to Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

Zamalek are preparing to resume action after the international break. They were given five days off following their 1-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla in the fifth round of the Premier League.

That result left Zamalek top of the table with 13 points, level with Al Ahly but ahead on goal difference, before the two sides meet in the sixth round on 11 October.

Ghazl El Mahalla remain bottom of the standings with one point from one draw and four defeats.

Ahmed Sherif scored his second successive league goal for Zamalek in the victory. He had previously found the net against Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fourth round.

The forward has now recorded 11 goal contributions in 37 appearances for Zamalek, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

Sherif also set up two goals in Zamalek’s 4-0 win over Djibouti’s Port in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
