Achraf Hakimi trial: PSG stresses Morocco star remains presumed innocent

Paris Saint-Germain has reiterated its support for Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi after France’s Court of Cassation confirmed that he will stand trial over rape allegations dating back to 2023.

Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations and remains presumed innocent under French law.

PSG reiterates support for Hakimi

The French club issued its statement to Le Parisien on Wednesday, hours after the Court of Cassation confirmed the referral to trial.

“Achraf Hakimi has always firmly contested the facts of which he is accused and remains presumed innocent to this day,” PSG said.

The club added that it would continue to provide Hakimi with a calm and respectful working environment in accordance with fundamental legal principles.

PSG also reaffirmed its commitment to combating all forms of violence, particularly sexual violence, while maintaining its position on Hakimi’s case.

Hakimi’s case proceeds to trial

The Court of Cassation’s decision follows a ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeal in June, which confirmed that the Morocco international should face trial before a criminal court.

Hakimi subsequently challenged that decision before France’s highest court for civil and criminal matters, but the appeal was unsuccessful.

The allegations relate to an incident reported in February 2023. Hakimi has denied the accusations since the beginning of the case and was formally placed under investigation shortly afterwards.

The latest ruling means the judicial process will now proceed to trial.

Morocco star continues football career

Hakimi has continued his football career throughout the legal proceedings and remains an important player for both PSG and Morocco.

The 27-year-old defender was recently included in Morocco’s squad for their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho.

Under French law, Hakimi remains presumed innocent unless and until a final court judgment establishes his guilt.
