Zwane focused on keeping AmaZulu’s strong start on course

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane says maintaining the momentum from their impressive opening to the Betway Premiership season will be his main challenge over the coming weeks.

Usuthu are four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and have a game in hand, with their early campaign driven by the form of striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya and their ability to secure important results away from home.

Zwane is aware that AmaZulu cannot afford to ease off when domestic football resumes following the FIFA break. He believes the pause provides an opportunity to assess the team’s progress and address areas that still require improvement.

“This break is very important for us so that we can go back to the drawing board and evaluate ourselves to see where we’re lacking, and so that we can start to work on those aspects of our game,” Zwane said.

Ngwenya has been central to AmaZulu’s positive start, scoring eight goals in seven league matches. However, Zwane said the team must avoid becoming overly dependent on the striker as the season continues.

The coach also provided an update on goalkeeper Darren Johnson, who remains on the road to recovery after suffering a ligament injury earlier this year.

Zwane made it clear that Johnson will not be rushed back into action and will be allowed sufficient time to regain full fitness.
