Senegal appoint Alioune Abitalib Fall as new Lionesses head coach

The Senegalese Football Federation has appointed Alioune Abitalib Fall as the new head coach of the Senegal women’s national team.

The federation officially confirmed the appointment on Wednesday, September 23, bringing an end to the search for a successor to Mame Moussa Cissé.

Fall takes charge of the Lionesses after previously working with Senegal’s women’s U20 national team, giving him considerable familiarity with the country’s women’s football structure and the players coming through the national setup.

His promotion to the senior national team represents a new chapter for the Lionesses as they prepare for the next phase of their international programme.

Fall succeeds Cissé, who stepped down from his position following Senegal’s elimination at the group stage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco earlier this summer.

Cissé’s departure came after Senegal were unable to progress beyond the group stage, prompting a change in leadership at the senior women’s national team.

Fall’s appointment comes just over a month after his predecessor’s departure and gives the new coach an opportunity to build on the work already done within the national setup.
