France replace injured Ibrahima Konate with Leny Yoro for September and October camp

Real Madrid defender Ibrahima Konate has been withdrawn from France’s September and October squad because of a knee injury.

He will miss a prolonged international break in which France are due to play four matches in the UEFA Nations League. Leny Yoro has been called up as his replacement, receiving his first senior France selection.

Konate’s omission is the latest change to the squad announced by France manager Zinedine Zidane.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery was previously ruled out of the camp with a groin injury. A statement said: “After consultations between the France team’s medical staff and Paris Saint-Germain, and by mutual agreement, Zaire-Emery will miss the camp.”

His PSG team-mate Maghnes Akliouche was selected to take his place.

France had also called up Como goalkeeper Jean Butez for the first time after Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser was removed from the squad because of a physical problem.

Butez, 31, played all 38 of Como’s Serie A matches last season and helped the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in its history. He has featured in four of Como’s five Serie A matches this season and also played in the club’s first-ever Champions League fixture, a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig earlier this month.

France squad includes several first-time selections

Zidane initially announced his first France squad on Friday, including a number of players from Serie A such as Mike Maignan, Manu Kone and Adrien Rabiot.

The list also featured first senior call-ups for Andy Diouf of Inter and Lucas Da Cunha of Como. Jeremy Jacquet of Liverpool was another first-time selection.

Adrien Truffert of Bournemouth returned to the squad after a four-year absence, while Diouf was recalled after last representing France in 2024. Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid was also included after missing the 2026 World Cup.

France will face Turkiye on 25 September, Belgium on 28 September, Italy on 2 October and Belgium again on 5 October.

Zidane took charge after Didier Deschamps left his role at the end of the 2026 World Cup, which was staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Zidane is expected to remain France manager until the 2030 World Cup.

France were eliminated from that tournament after losing 2-0 to Spain in the semi-final.
