Kevin Denkey confident Togo will qualify for CAN 2027 ahead of Burundi opener

Togo forward Kevin Denkey says he is certain the Eperviers will reach CAN 2027 as they prepare to begin their qualifying campaign against Burundi on home soil.

The Togo squad have been training at Stade de Kegue ahead of Friday’s opening match, which they know they must win to make the ideal start to their campaign.

Denkey said the team understood the importance of the fixture and had prepared thoroughly for the challenge.

“I am certain that we are going to go to the CAN now. It will also depend on this match against Burundi, which we are preparing for very well,” he said after training.

“It is a match we have to win and we know how important it is. We will do everything to win, and we will win this match here at home from the start of the game.”

The striker also acknowledged the expectations surrounding the team, particularly with the match being played in Togo.

“Playing here at home brings a lot of pressure for the new players who do not know it,” Denkey said. “I think it is good pressure.”

“We know it is an important match and one that is really anticipated here in the country. So we are prepared and doing everything to be at 100%, or even 200%.”

Togo will face Burundi on Friday, 25 September 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT at Stade de Kegue.
