Orlando Pirates players lead South Africa Under-23 squad for Algeria friendlies

Orlando Pirates have supplied the largest group of players in Raymond Mdaka’s 26-man South Africa Under-23 squad for two friendly matches against Algeria during the upcoming international break.

Amaglug-glug will meet Algeria twice in Durban, on Wednesday, 30 September and Saturday, 3 October 2027. The venue for both matches has not yet been announced.

The South African Football Association confirmed that the squad will assemble on Sunday.

“Coach Raymond Mdaka has announced an SA U23 squad of 26 players to face Algeria in two friendly matches to be played in Durban on Wednesday, 30 September and Saturday, 3 October 2027. The venue will be announced at a later stage. The squad assembles on Sunday,” SAFA said.

Orlando Pirates’ representatives include Camren Dansin, Mpho Padime, Neo Rapoo and Simphiwe Selepe, who are among the most prominent names in the selection.

Kaizer Chiefs have three players in the squad: Mfundo Vilakazo, Luke Baartman and Faiz Abrahams.

Mamelodi Sundowns are represented by Kutlwano Letlhaku and Gomolemo Kekana, while Thato Sibiya, who is on loan from LOSC Lille, has also been selected.

The squad also includes New England Revolution defender Tyson Smith and Fletcher Smythe-Lowe, the goalkeeper from Estoril Praia.

The Algeria fixtures form part of the preparations for Mdaka’s South Africa Under-23 side during the international break. The remaining members of the 26-player squad were not listed in the information released.
