Zamalek pay overdue player wages and league title bonuses after Bezerra sale

Zamalek have paid all outstanding player wages from last season, along with bonuses for winning the league title, after receiving the first instalment from the sale of winger Juan Bezerra to Shabab Al Ahli Dubai.

The payments were calculated according to each player’s percentage of appearances during the campaign.

The club’s finances were strengthened by the transfer, allowing the outstanding amounts owed to members of the squad to be settled in full. The league-winning bonuses were also included in the payments.

Zamalek are now seeking an alternative venue to Cairo Stadium for their matches in Egypt’s Capital Cup after being informed that the stadium will not host fixtures in the competition.

Cairo Stadium had originally been scheduled to stage Zamalek’s match against ZED, as well as Modern’s meeting with National Bank, in the opening round of the group stage.

A source at Cairo Stadium told FilGoal.com: “Cairo Stadium will not host matches in Egypt’s Capital Cup.”

Zamalek’s management has subsequently contacted Arab Contractors Stadium about hosting the fixture against ZED.

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has also brought forward the dates of the opening Egypt’s Capital Cup matches involving Al Ahly and Zamalek.

Al Ahly will face Petrojet on 7 October at Al Salam Stadium, while Zamalek will play ZED on the same day.

Cairo Stadium is due to host Egypt’s match against Angola on Friday, 25 September, in the opening round of the African qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The stadium will also stage Egypt’s friendly against South Africa on 4 October.

Zamalek and Al Ahly are scheduled to meet in the sixth round of the league on 11 October, with the match set to take place at Cairo Stadium.
