Spain reach Women’s Under-20 World Cup final after beating Italy

Spain secured their place in the 2026 Women’s Under-20 World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Italy in Łodz on Wednesday.

The result means La Rojita will contest their third final in the past four editions, further underlining their strong form throughout the tournament.

David Aznar’s side dominated from the start and finished the first half with 14 attempts to Italy’s one. However, they had to wait until the 40th minute to take the lead when Italy defender Elena Belli turned the ball into her own net after being wrong-footed by a deflected cross from Azzurra Gallo.

Spain doubled their advantage 11 minutes into the second half. Pau Comendador, the tournament’s leading scorer, converted a superb cross from Daniela Agote in the 56th minute to register her sixth goal of the competition in Poland.

Spain had another goal disallowed for handball later in the match, but it did not prevent them from holding on to their lead and completing a comfortable passage into the final.

Their opponents will be decided by the second semi-final between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Colombia. The final will be played on Sunday, 27 September.
