Kylian Mbappe says he does not expect to continue playing beyond the age of 40 like Portugal great Cristiano Ronaldo, joking that France would never allow it.
The France captain and Real Madrid forward told German newspaper Bild: “I don’t think I will play until I’m 41 like Cristiano Ronaldo. France will never let me do that.”
Mbappe, 27, added that Ronaldo’s career showed how long a player could remain at the highest level when physically and mentally fit.
“Ronaldo proves that if you are in good physical and mental condition, you can continue playing at this high level for a long time,” he said. “But in my case, I don’t see that happening.”
France begin their Nations League campaign against Turkiye on Friday.
They are in Group A alongside Italy, Turkiye and Belgium.
Mbappe has won 106 international caps for France and scored 66 goals.
